**WE ARE MANY** is a dark, unsettling retelling of the man among the tombs, drawn primarily from **Mark 5:1–20**, with parallel accounts in **Matthew 8:28–34** and **Luke 8:26–39**.
The song follows a man living among the graves, isolated from the living, breaking every chain used to restrain him, and crying out through the night. When Jesus arrives across the water, the voices within the man recognize him, identify themselves as **“Legion, for we are many,”** and beg not to be driven away. They enter a nearby herd of pigs, which rushes down the hillside and into the sea.
Rather than explaining the event through doctrine, the song remains inside the tension of the story: Where does the man end and the legion begin? Who is speaking through his mouth? Why does the surrounding community fear the restored man—and ask Jesus to leave—after witnessing his deliverance?
**WE ARE MANY** presents the passage as a haunting confrontation between captivity, identity, fear, and restoration.
