SOPHIA — A Song of Wisdom, Exile, and Return

Before the world of matter, before flesh and stone, the ancient Gnostic traditions imagined a realm of divine fullness called the Pleroma — a place of light, perfection, and eternal being.

And within that mystery stood Sophia: Wisdom.

This song follows the haunting story of Sophia’s descent: reaching beyond the harmony of the divine realm, becoming separated from the fullness above, and finding herself surrounded by chaos and darkness.

From that rupture comes a strange and unsettling creation.

A lion-faced ruler rises in ignorance, believing himself to be the highest God. Matter takes shape. The heavens become divided. The divine spark becomes buried within a world that has forgotten where it came from.

But Sophia has not forgotten.

She cries upward toward the Light.

She repents.

She remembers.

And from beyond the darkness, salvation answers.

The lyrics draw from several ancient Gnostic traditions rather than retelling one document literally — including themes associated with Pistis Sophia, the Apocryphon of John, and Valentinian accounts of Sophia’s fall. The reference to Sophia’s thirteen repentances comes especially from Pistis Sophia, while the imagery of the arrogant lion-faced creator echoes descriptions of Yaldabaoth found within Sethian Gnostic literature.

This is not presented as Christian doctrine or as a claim about what the listener must believe.

It is musical storytelling — taking one of the strangest, most beautiful, and most tragic cosmological myths preserved from the ancient religious world and allowing Sophia’s voice to echo through it:

The wisdom that reached too far.
The mother who mourned what followed.
The spark that could still remember the Light.

And finally…

the hope of returning home.

Sophia.

A song about exile, remembrance, and the Light that darkness could never completely erase.
