**GIVE HIM TO ME** is a dark theatrical retelling built around some of the Hebrew Bible’s most disturbing firstborn and child-sacrifice passages.
The song draws primarily from **Exodus 22:29–30** and **Ezekiel 20:25–26**, where the firstborn are placed among what is to be given, and where Ezekiel speaks of “statutes that were not good” and the offering of those who first open the womb. The imagery of children being passed through fire also reflects the wider biblical tradition surrounding child sacrifice.
Rather than trying to defend, condemn, or harmonize the passages, the song simply enters the world of the text and tells the story from inside it: the first of the harvest, the first of the flock, and finally the firstborn son.
From a historical-critical perspective, scholars widely accept that child sacrifice occurred among at least some ancient Israelites and Judahites, while the exact relationship between these practices, firstborn laws, and the worship of Israel’s deity remains debated.
