“Break Their Teeth” is a theatrical retelling inspired by Psalm 58:6–10—one of the most violent and visually striking passages in the Book of Psalms.
The story places us inside an ancient court where justice has been sold. A wounded widow stands before corrupt judges whose smiles conceal the fangs of predators. Silver changes hands, the scales are bent, and another innocent person is condemned.
Then the daylight disappears.
A whirlwind tears through the courthouse. Pillars collapse, arrows splinter before leaving their bows, and the judges are swept away before the fire beneath their pot can even begin to burn. Their teeth scatter through the dust, their power melts beneath the sun, and the blood of the wicked runs across the stones where their victims once stood helpless.
The widow survives to witness the throne fall.
Psalm 58 does not soften its demand for justice. It imagines the wicked losing their teeth like lions stripped of their fangs, vanishing like water, melting like a slug, being carried away by a whirlwind, and leaving the righteous to wash their feet in blood.
“Break Their Teeth” takes those disturbing images and turns them into a scene—as though we were standing in the courtyard when judgment finally arrived.
